A Greener Germany?

It's a forecast, largely based on the economic resurgence in the first half of 2021. It seems, however, very likely Germany will see, this year, its biggest rise in the release of 'greenhouse gas' emissions for 30 years (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/15/germany-set-for-biggest-rise-in-greenhouse-gases-for-30-years). Rises are, of course, relative to their starting baselines. Emissions will have declined to relatively low levels in the Covid pandemic. Any increase in Germany's 'greenhouse gas' emissions will, however, put it off-track for achieving its pledge of a 40% reduction on 1990 releases. The major sources of the country's increased emissions are, predictably, the building, industrial and transport sectors. Germany's extreme weather events in 2021 may stimulate people to look for ways of achieving emissions reductions more quickly, especially in building, industry and transport?
