This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Slow, Slow Ban?
"Single Use Plastic Plates and Cutlery (Along With Polystyrene Cups) To Be Banned in England" thunders the headline (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/27/single-use-plastic-plates-and-cutlery-to-be-banned-in-england). Not so fast! The proposal might (it can always be delayed) go out for consultation this Autumn (Fall). If adopted, a ban could follow 'in a couple of years'. Quick to claim the credit. Glacially (remember them?) slow to act!
