This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

In Spite Of...?
In spite of failing to receive appropriate governmental support, the UK's low carbon economy is now worth £200bn (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/10/uks-green-economy-four-times-larger-than-manufacturing-sector-says-report). This makes that sector (wind turbines, insulation etc) four times more financially important than the country's manufacturing sector. Low carbon companies employ 1.2 million people in the UK. They could be much larger, if they received realistic encouragement. This may be optimistic, as the UK's Chancellor is said to be opposed to a carbon tax. Expansions of the 'green economy' should be possible in many countries across the globe. They could help extract us from the climate emergency mess that we are in.
