This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Going West
The region of extreme temperature (around 40 degrees Centigrade) in southern Europe is moving westward (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/13/summer-of-fire-blazes-mediterranean-more-extreme-weather-forecast). Wildfires continue to rage in Greece, where 100,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed. Fires still burn in Italy and Turkey. The Mediterranean region is now threatened. There are already fires in parts of Spain, where more protected forested areas are threatened. Southern France is also a tinderbox. Awful for all concerned. The urgency of the need to counter climate change could, however, hardly be clearer.
