This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Man With a Plan?
Lord Deben (Chair of the UK Climate Change Committee) suggests that the PM's delay in publishing his plan for getting to carbon zero by 2050, is creating problems as it "has left room for sceptics" to attack the process and its costs (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/16/uk-net-zero-delay-has-left-room-for-climate-sceptics-attacks-says-tory-peer). Lorden Deben argues that the plan is urgently needed. Getting it just a few weeks before COP26 in November is less than optimal. His interpretation seems a highly optimistic. The easy part is promising carbon zero by 2050. Applause for ambitions! 2050, however, is in the dim and distant future, when the current personnel can no longer be held responsible. If there is one thing that some politicians are good at, it's putting off actual meaningful decisions until the last possible moment. I'm pretty convinced (I really hope I am wrong) that there is no actual plan. They might have an old envelop but they haven't started to write on the back of it yet?
