This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Local Lamb
It's a bit local! Gower saltwater lamb is the first British food to be given protection under the UK's Independent Geographical Indication Scheme (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/aug/11/gower-lamb-is-first-british-food-to-get-protection-under-post-brexit-scheme). The meat is from sheep grazing and breeding on the marsh plants (including Samphire and Sea lavender) between tides. The diet of the sheep is said to give the meat a distinctive (and price-enhancing) flavour.
