This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

You Have Four Years, Max!
Sections of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are obviously worried about governments 'watering down' (if they have any water) their message. Part of the report has been 'leaked' (another water analogy) with the stark conclusion that 'greenhouse gases' must peak in the next four years, if we are to have any chance of staving off the worst effects of climate change (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/12/greenhouse-gas-emissions-must-peak-within-4-years-says-leaked-un-report). The leaked IPCC report section also maintains that all coal or gas-fired power plants must close within the next 10 years. Even that will be insufficient. Lifestyle and behavioural changes for populations (especially the big consumer societies) will also be required. There is not much sign of politicians showing they appreciate how little time they/we might have!
