This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Decapitating Mountains?
The South peak of Sweden's Kebnekaise mountain was dethroned as that country's highest in 2019 (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/18/swedish-mountain-shrinks-by-two-metres-in-a-year-as-glacier-melts). The South peak is topped by a glacier, whereas the North peak (the new holder) is not. What is remarkable, is that climate change has resulted in the South peak losing 20 metres in height since the mid-1990's. The South peak actually lost 2 metres last year. About one third of Sweden's only glacier is now gone.
