This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Changeable?
The news is full of stories about wildfires and holiday makers (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/06/wildfires-out-of-control-greece-turkey-thousands-flee). Wildfires, in Greece and Turkey, have caused thousands of people to flee. Greece had had prolonged temperatures of over 45 degrees Centigrade and now has more than 50 fires. Many are around Athens and on the island of Evia, locations for tourists. The fires not only threaten people and housing, they have endangered electrical installations. In Turkey, people are having to be rescued from beach resorts in the South of the country. Notable fires (currently less newsworthy here) still rage in Italy, the US and Siberia. In Wales, it rains and monster toadstools grow on my lawn. Welcome to climate change!
