This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Homes Underwater?
Bizzare thinking. This year, in England, planning permissions for over 5000 new homes, have been granted on flood plains (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/nov/22/more-than-5000-homes-in-england-approved-to-be-built-in-flood-zones). All the indications are that flooding is likely to become a more common and widespread event in areas of the UK. The builders claim they 'have no choice', if they are to tackle the housing shortage. One might suspect that they really mean they have no choice, if they want to keep the profits rolling in. Homes on the flood plains are likely to be difficult/impossible to insure. People who purchase these properties might well end up being bankrupted. There will still be a housing shortage.
