This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Perhaps We Could Rename All the Colleges 'Amazon'?
The University of Oxford's Linacre College is due to seek permission to change its name, after a £155m donation from Vietnam's richest woman (https://www.theguardian.com/education/2021/nov/03/oxford-college-to-change-its-name-after-155m-donation). The woman's Sovico Company made much of her fortune from offshore oil and gas exploration, bank financing of fossil fuels as well as running Vietnam's first private, budget airline. Linacre College appeared a bit worried about this poor environmental aspect but have been mollified by a promise 'to go green'. It just occurs that some companies are now rich enough to get all Universities to change their names. Money talks (very loudly) in academic circles.
