This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Sharing Our World?
The Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed the first UK case of a pet dog catching Covid19 from its owner (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/health/medical/dog-contracts-covid-from-its-owner-in-first-confirmed-uk-case/ar-AAQAomX?ocid=uxbndlbing). The dog's infection was confirmed, when the animal was tested at the Animal and Plant Health Agency in Weybridge. The discovery appears to be somewhat accidental, as the dog was being examined for other problems. We should be unsurprised by this development, as other carnivores including cats, ferrets and mink have proved susceptible to Sars-CoV-2. A previous dog infection with the virus has also been recorded in Texas. The fact that generally unvaccinated animals can also be infected by Covid19, suggests that care needs to be taken in households with pets. Dog ownership boomed in the Covid19 lockdowns in the UK.
