This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Mr Hypocrisy?
Sadly, in spite of the UK PM comments, making serious progress to limit climate change will require wearing the odd 'hair shirt'. Prominent people will have to set good examples and everyone will have to cut down on activities adding to the release of 'greenhouse gases'. The UK's PM graphically demonstrated just how unserious he really is about climate change. He told the Cop26 assembly we were 'only one minute from midnight' in our fight to save the planet (I think most of them knew that). He then boarded a private jet in Glasgow to fly him back to London. The journey could have been completed by train in less than 5 hours. The excuse used was that there were 'time constraints'. (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/nov/03/johnson-takes-private-jet-from-cop26-to-london-to-attend-dinner). Did he have an urgent meeting in London dealing with life or death issues? No, he had to attend a men's only dinner at a private club. The dinner was actually a social gathering for male employees of a newspaper that paid the PM in his journalist days. One government minister suggested that the PM's jet used 'green fuel'. Presumably, that would be the finest 'greenwash'? All jet fuel produces substantial emissions. Using some plant-based additive doesn't change that.
