This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Rotterdam Riots
As the Anglo half of an Anglo-Dutch family, I have always warmed to the individuality of the Dutch. The renewed rioting in my second home of Rotterdam, however, fills me with despair (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/19/the-netherlands-rotterdam-police-open-fire-as-covid-protest-turns-violent). I can understand people being unhappy with renewed lockdown. The rioters, however, ought to be aware that their enemy is not the authorities, the medics and 'Big Pharma'. Their actual 'opponent' is a tiny strand of RNA, wrapped in protein. The virus couldn't care less if you throw stones and fireworks. Burning cars also doesn't impress them.
