Right-wing UK Media and Climate Change

The UK's right-wing newspapers have a long tradition of supporting well-backed, climate change denialists. Even those august journals, however, seem to have now reached the point of having to accept, that human-mediated (anthropogenic) global heating is occurring. Leo Hickman (of Carbon Brief) has noticed an interesting strategy change by these papers (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jul/23/snowflakes-climate-change-right-culture-war-daily-mail). The papers can't now (too many extreme weather events, noticed by their readers?) attack the fact of climate change. They consequently direct their fury to messengers warning about climate change. The right-wing media even attack policy responses intended to deal with the phenomenon. The papers seem to do this, by giving their front pages to 'shock jocks'; obscure lobbyists or even folk who seem to have never previously existed. The UK's right-wing newspapers are uniformly not at all keen on net zero emissions. This is in spite of the improbability of beneficial climate stability without it. Bodies, like the Meteorological Office, are labelled as 'woke' and 'alarmist'. Climate protestors are dismissed as 'culture warriors', only intent on 'prolonging the agony'. As Hickman notes, climate change has become a new front in the right-wing's culture wars. There's little sign of any intelligent life on that planet!

Food For Thought?

The link between global heating and food prices is clearly illustrated in a recent CarbonBrief ( https://www.carbonbrief.org/five-charts-ho...
