This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Sett in Their Ways?
It's the 10th season of badger killing in the UK. This British Mammal, living in its sett, is a protected species. It's protected, except where dairy farmers have permission to 'cull' them, in a useless attempt to reduce the transmission of Bovine TB (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jul/20/experts-call-for-stop-to-badger-cull-as-link-to-bovine-tb-is-contested). It will surprise few informed folk there has been no reduction in the incidence of Bovine TB in the 'culling fields'. Scientists, Vets and Naturalists are all appealing to government to abandon the cull. Fat chance, as badgers, unlike farmers, have no votes!
