This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. Plants We Used to Use 1. The Marsh Mallow
The Marsh mallow used to supply an important ingredient for the marshmallow sweet (of toasting fame). In 19th century France, marshmallows were made by mixing Marsh mallow root sap with egg whites and sugar. Later, cornstarch was added to the mix. Nowadays, Mallow sap has been replaced by gelatine in marshmallows but the plant's fame lives on
