This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Pledge Watch and Agribusiness
Agriculture generates circa 25% of the world's 'greenhouse gas' emissions. In the spirit of the times, 10 of the world's biggest agribusinesses pledged to accelerate their forest protection efforts at Glasgow's Cop26 (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/04/agribusiness-giants-tried-to-thwart-eu-deforestation-plan-after-cop26-pledge). Only 8 days after Cop26, 5 of the 10 were seeking to weaken a draft EU law designed to ban food imports that were linked to deforestation. Banning, they said, would 'increase food prices'. It's amazing how ephermeral and profits-related a pledge can be!
