This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Sacrificing Health For Profits?
UN Expert, David Boyd, notes than one in six human deaths in the world can be linked to pollution. This is three times more than the combined mortalities produced by AIDS, Malaria and tuberculosis (TB). Pollution-induced deaths are also currently 15 times those resulting from all wars, murders and 'other forms of violence' (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/10/millions-suffering-in-deadly-pollution-sacrifice-zones-warns-un-expert). Boyd opines that our planet has 'sacrifice zones', where the 'right' to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment' doesn't apply. Every area of the globe has such zones. They are not simply limited to poor countries. Who is being sacrificed and by whom?
