The Great Barrier Reef Is In Crisis

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that the Great Barrier reef is already affected by the heating of its ocean (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/05/dishonest-morrison-government-wanted-ipcc-to-say-great-barrier-reef-not-yet-in-crisis). The IPCC have found that the iconic reef is experiencing more frequent and severe bleaching events. Bleaching is when symbiotic algae leave their coral organism hosts. It generally results in the death of the reef and the myriad of organisms dependent on it. The Australian government apparently doesn't like this conclusion. They would prefer the IPCC to describe the Barrier reef as 'not yet in crisis' (not quite bleached enough?). It's, of course, completely inappropriate for politicians to try to exert this kind of pressure on scientists. Adapting conclusions to suit politicians, means it's no longer science. Perhaps the government just see an opportunity to make a new comedy 'Carry on Polluting'?
