This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

There May Be a Depression Over Wales?
I don't really want to add to a general air of pessimism, but I'm not currently feeling optimistic about the state of our world and its immediate future. News seems to be almost totally dominated by war, coups, plagues, storms, droughts, fires, destruction of environments, floods, misinformation, general short-termism, antipathy to other groups, rampant commercialism, legal systems that appear to only help the very wealthy etc, etc. I'm also not currently admiring the competence and honesty of politicians, heads of industry, large sections of the media, directors of organisations etc. I know that I'm a miserable, old git. Perhaps this feeling will pass? Then, perhaps it won't?
