All the Time in the World?

The UK government seem intent on building in apparent success to their 'World-beating' plan for species recovery in England (the Scots and the Welsh do their own thing). In England, species recovery will be measured against the situation pertaining in 2030 (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/may/31/species-recovery-targets-england-damaging-illogical-scientists-warn). Scientists have warned that, as species diversity is already at rock bottom, the metric could include 8 years of decline before any 'improvements' are recorded.
