Taking the Heat?

In the aftermath of Australia's Federal Election, Guardian columnist, Jeff Sparrow, reels off a series of quotes by that country's conservative commentariat. These all disparagingly imply that expressing any concern about planetary heating, is a form of 'virtue signalling' by a wealthy 'woke elite'. Sparrow thinks they couldn't be more wrong. The planet's working classes know they are hit hardest by planetary heating ((https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jun/18/the-climate-crisis-is-hitting-the-planets-working-classes-the-hardest-and-they-know-it). One can make a distinction between the wealthy, who can protect themselves from a warming planet, and the poor who have no such options. This discrepancy is evident in both the developed and the developing world. Sparrow stresses, however, that the poor are, not so busy with simple survival, they don't recognise the unfairness of the status quo. He thinks they will change their votes, accordingly. As Sparrow says, 'the cow tends not to vote for the butcher'.
