Just Don't Mention It!

The National Audit Office (NAO) notes the UK is not on track, to cut its air pollution. For decades, it has been known that gases and particulates (largely from diesel and petrol-fuelled transport) have powerful negative impacts on human cardio-respiratory disease and life expectancy (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jun/17/uk-not-on-track-to-cut-air-pollution-and-is-not-informing-public-on-air-quality-nao-says). Even worse, the NAO maintain the public is not being given accurate, timely information on air quality. Information on this, would at least, allow some people to choose to operate at times in areas, when such dangers are least. This is all very reminiscent of the situation in London, under the last Conservative mayor. Then, people were not given evidence that many inner city schools, were in locations blighted by substantial air pollution. Development of young bodies and minds can be especially impaired by air pollution. There was virtually no attempt to take on the powerful motoring lobby. Now, the UK doesn't have to stick to EU limits. 'Plus ca change', as they say.

Food For Thought?
