This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Because They Are Worth It?
Apologies, if this is a tad political (not my expertise). I was flabbergasted to learn that 'experts' predict the current UK PM could 'earn' £5m per year after he leaves office. This is several orders of magnitude greater than he currently gets for doing the day job (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jun/11/boris-johnson-stands-make-millions-after-no-10). The cash would apparently roll in, largely by giving speeches/the same speech to large, commercial organisations at £100,000 a pop! It accepted as a truism that all political careers end in failure. So, surely, an ex-politician is a failure. They are hardly likely to be presenting new insights or information 'hot' from current thinking. Ex-politicians are also (in spite of what some of them think of themselves) not professional entertainers. One can only think that the inflated figures result from commercial folk trying to impress their friends. 'I have a former household name, making a speech after my dinner!' I feel they could do better by fishing in different pools.
