This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. Two Contaminants For One!
On the shores of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, Spanish scientists have discovered a novel type of coastal pollution (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jun/13/plastitar-mix-of-tar-and-microplastics-is-new-form-of-pollution-say-scientists). The pollution, termed plastitar, is a mixture of tar and microplastics. This discovery confirms that microplastics are incredibly wide-spread in marine environments. It could, however, suggest ways of removing plastics from seawater (without encouraging oil pollution)?
