Big Oil: As Seen in Washington and the UK?

'Big oil' is being seen very differently on the two sides of the Atlantic. In Washington, a Congressional Hearing has been delving into the internal documentation of ExxonMobile; Chevron; Shell and BP. The Hearing found repeated examples of oil company executives; staffers and lobbyists internally contradicting pronouncements by their companies that they were commited to lowering climate-heating 'greenhouse gas' emissions (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/sep/17/oil-companies-exxonmobil-chevron-shell-bp-climate-crisis). The basic conclusion was that the oil giants "keep lying about their commitments to help solve the climate crisis and should never be trusted by policymakers". Meanwhile, more than 50 UK 'Just Stop Oil' protesters, were sent to prison in a single day (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/sep/16/more-than-50-just-stop-oil-protesters-in-uk-sent-to-jail-on-one-day ). 'Just Stop Oil' demands urgent action on climate change. The jailed protesters had blockaded the Warwickshire oil terminal. They all refused to comply with court procedings that they ceased further protests. Big oil will not have further taxes on its excess profits in the UK. UK policymakers happily 'buy into' big oil's claim to be 'commited' to help solve the climate crisis. These are the same companies! Perhaps we just more gullible over here?
