Here, There and Everywhere?

The Western US states are currently struggling through one of the hottest and longest September heatwaves on record (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/sep/07/california-record-temperatures-heatwave-blackouts-sacramento-reno. Some Californian and Nevada locations have reached temperatures close to July maxima. Electricity blackouts have been feared (the elevated temperatures increase the demand for air conditioning). Predictably, wildfires have broken out in several areas. Meanwhile, China has had a 2-month long summer heatwave, that was the 3rd driest on record. There has been a widespread and disruptive drought (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/07/china-reports-most-severe-heatwave-and-lowest-rainfall-on-record). The UN has also warned that parts of Somalia are likely to enter a state of famine later this year. This African country is also battling an unrelenting drought (https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2022/sep/05/drought-likely-to-push-parts-of-somalia-into-famine-by-december-warns-un). Concomitantly, large parts of Pakistan remain underwater, due to a 'monster monsoon'. Millions of people have been displaced (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/06/we-screamed-our-hearts-out-for-help-homeless-escape-pakistan-floods). Can people really argue that 'climate alarmism' is not a more than justified response? The world needs to reduce 'greenhouse gas' emissions to a much greater extent and much more quickly than is currently the case. We shouldn't be distracted by finance or wars. Currently, the world temperature is just over 1 degree Centigrade higher than in Pre-Industrial times. Without drastic intervention, global heating will climb to 3 degrees higher. Some people act as if this means that climate change will be 'only' three times as bad as at present. Unfortunately, the consequences of global heating will be far from linear!
