Drax, Drat and Drat, Again?

The Drax power station, near Selby in North Yorkshire, is the UK's single, biggest emitter of 'greenhouse gases'. Drax converted from burning coal, to burning wood. It was claimed, because wood is grown, this was a 'green option'. This is, of course, nonsense (it's basically carbon dioxide in and carbon dioxide out). This is especially so, when Drax talk of importing wood pellets, to maintain their electricity generation. In their desperation to reduce current energy bills, the UK government could 'lock the country' into a long-term commitment with Drax (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/sep/20/energy-bills-drax-carbon-emissions). The 'cunning' plan is to persuade the various suppliers of electricity (using gas, wind, solar and nuclear energy) to give up their current contracts. The current contracts are highly lucrative, as units of electricity are supplied at a standard (now inflated) unit of cost. The inducement to supply electricity below the current market rate, is a long-term deal, guaranteeing public funding well into the future. Drax might be able to join such a scheme, meaning it would continue to push out 'greenhouse gases' long after it should have ceased doing so. What is really needed, is a major push to replace the burning of gas and wood to generate electricity, with solar, tidal and wind power.
