This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

False Fall?
In Autumn (Fall) deciduous trees normally shed their leaves. These leaves are often beautifully coloured, as the tree recovers useful materials before excision. Many UK trees are already dropping their leaves but this is an attempt to survive recent excessive temperatures and drought (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/e2-80-98false-autumn-e2-80-99-caused-by-summer-drought-spells-trouble-for-nature/ar-AA10YMs9). False Autumns are a sign that the natural world is struggling. Changes outside their normal synchrony, represent challenges for plant and animal survival.
