This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Ancient Amphibian Acclaim
Amphibians were the first vertebrates to move on to the land. The 'daddy' of all Amphibia appears to be a 270m year-old fossil. This was discovered, some 40 years ago, in the Red beds of Texas (USA). Palaeontologists (fossil folk) have now named their specimen Kermitops gratus, after the Muppet show's frog (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/mar/21/scientists-name-newly-discovered-ancient-amphibian-species-after-kermit-the-frog). Even scientists like their little jokes!
