The Shape of Things to Come?

Bill McGuire, a University College London Emeritus Professor, vividly describes the extreme weather events, that will batter the UK, by 2050. This country (like most of Europe) will be exposed to regular heatwaves, river flooding, flash floods and violent storms. There'll inevitably be human fatalities, as well as damage to properties, transport, commerce and food production (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/mar/19/summer-storm-britain-future-tories-labour-climate). McGuire believes that Britain is totally unprepared for the extreme weather that's coming. He notes that currently 1 in 15 of England's important flood defences are in a 'poor or very poor' condition. The insulation of UK homes is also progressing extremely slowly. 'Green' areas in cities get a low priority. McGuire argues that, irrespective of politics, there's an urgent need to reboot climate mitigation (measures designed to reduce climate change impact) across, towns, cities and the countryside. We know what to do but nobody seems to be doing it!
