This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Just 'Freakishly High' Or Accelerating?
Widespread record land and sea temperatures have already been seen in 2024. Some climate scientists think these are broadly in line with predicted global heating patterns. Others, believe that climate breakdown is actually accelerating (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/mar/16/scientists-divided-record-heat-acceleration-climate-crisis). The El Nino phenomenon, that generally seasonally intensifies global heating, is actually currently weakening. Things are worrying, as the seas now absorb circa 90% of anthropogenic warming. Their capacity to do this may, however, be limited.
