This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

'Short-changed' on Vaccines by G7?
Different European countries are opening up social activities, as their Covid19 infection rates fall. There is concomittantly a debate about whether the UK risks another winter wave of infections, by sticking to its road-mapped 'freedom day' on the 21st of June. Perhaps more important, is a rather overlooked outcome from the G7 meeting in Cornwall (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/13/lifting-covid-rules-could-mean-repeat-of-winter-wave-of-cases-says-sage-adviser). Everyone is aware that nobody is safe from Sars-CoV-2 and its variants, until the entire world is vaccinated. The G7 were informed that 11 bn vaccines were needed to treat people in the poorest countries. They collectively pledged 1bn. The G7 were also told that the costs of this vaccination programme would be $50bn. They committed $5bn. As yet unknown variants, are likely to develop in unprotected parts of the world. The G7's very limited offers, could well come back to bite it.
