This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

World Class Procrastinators?
The UK seems to have taken on board, the need to reduce 'greenhouse gas' emissions (they have at least been fast to 'pledge' reductions by 2050). What the government have not been very good at, however, is preparing for the effects of climate change (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jun/16/uk-failing-to-protect-against-climate-dangers-advisers-warn). Summers are confidently predicted to be much hotter (especially in the South of England). More older people will be endangered by heat stress in overheating homes. There is an increased probability of wildfires. Travel is likely to be disrupted by challenges to electrical supplies, distorting of rail tracks etc. Winters are also likely to be much wetter, with an increased flooding risk. It seems that virtually no planning has taken place so far to deal with these issues. Talking the talk without walking the walk?
