This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Perhaps Not the Best Location?
A pair of Ospreys ('Fish eagles'), are incubating an egg, at a secret location near Poole Harbour in Dorset (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/apr/26/dorset-ospreys-produce-egg-for-first-time-in-200-years). For Southern England, this is the first recorded breeding attempt by Ospreys, in circa 200 years. A White-tailed eagle has been poisoned, however, in a nearby Dorset location (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/29/dead-eagle-found-in-dorset-was-poisoned-but-case-closed-police-confirm). This crime was followed by the police (following apparent political pressure?) choosing not to investigate. The Dorset police even changed the focus of their specialist crime team, away from any reference to wildlife. Dorset may not turn out to be a good place for any kind of eagle to raise a chick?
