This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Wind Turbines and US Eagles
It is illegal to kill eagles in the USA. FSI Energy, one of the country's largest wind energy companies has pleaded guilty to killing at least 150.(https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/apr/07/wind-energy-company-guilty-killing-eagles). FSI Energy has turbine installations in a number of states. Unfortunately, some of them are sited on the migratory routes of a number of eagle species. Birds have been killed by the spinning blades. The company has promised action to reduce the carnage. One hopes, however, that this will not be used to curtail the use of wind power. There will be much worse carnage if the global 'greenhouse gas' emissions are not rapidly curtailed. Perhaps solar power installations on bird migratory routes would be a better bet?
