This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Hard Cheese?
There used to be 'war' between the carnivores and the vegetarians. Now, there is a growing (but perhaps more civilised?) 'dispute' between vegans and some vegetarians (https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/may/20/who-moved-my-cheese-the-silent-battle-between-vegetarians-and-vegans). It is often the case, when a limited menu has only one meat-free item, that chefs push a cheese or dairy item off their list. The chef goes for a vegan meat-free dish, as this will be acceptable to both vegans and vegetarians. It can, however, leave some cheese-loving vegetarians, 'cheesed off'.
