This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Stand and Don't Deliver!
News that Ireland's State health services have been attacked by foreign ransomware is very disturbing (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/14/ransomware-attack-disrupts-irish-health-services). It seems that there are very few things these cybercriminals will not do, in their attempts to extract money. They are prepared to attack people's health provision, energy supplies and environmental safety, all for a few dollars more. Their activities are beyond reprehensible (some of their actions could even kill in the longer term)! Better ways need to be found to protect computer systems from ransomware. Ransomware users and the countries harbouring such individuals, should also be rapidly identified. At the moment, cybercrime an easy way to make money, with minimal risk to the criminal.
