This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Snail Mail Only For the UK Well-Heeled?
From Monday, a First Class postage stamp goes up to 95p (an almost 12% increase). The Second Class stamp goes up to 68p (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/apr/04/price-of-a-first-class-stamp-goes-up-by-10p-to-95p-in-uk). We now seem an awfully long way from the introduction of the first 'Penny Black' stamp in 1840. It's appreciated that costs are rising for the Post Office (perhaps partially in relation to the massive compensation they will have to give to people falsely accused/imprisoned for accounting frauds in their sub-post offices?). Many people are now increasingly using electronic communications. Almost £1 for sending a card or a letter seems, however, to clearly signal the end of 'snail mail' for many folk.
