Darwin In a Pink Gift Bag?

The above image is a hand-written note by Charles Darwin, in a copy of his Origins of the Species book. Of much more historical importance, were the two Darwin manuscripts, reported stolen from Cambridge University Library, in October 2020. These manuscripts have now been found, in a pink gift bag, left outside the door of the Librarian's office (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2022/apr/05/stolen-darwin-journals-returned-to-cambridge-university-library). Cambridge University Library first noticed the Darwin manuscripts were missing in 2001. It wasn't until 2020, however, that the library staff convinced themselves the note books hadn't been simply mis-shelved. It's a big library! The bag, with the manuscripts, had a typed envelop, wishing the Librarian 'A Happy Easter!' The Librarian's door is not covered by closed-circuit TV! Looks as if the thief has covered his/her tracks (you might expect that at Cambridge). Let's hope the library takes more care with its highly 'nickable' items.
