This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. The material should help participants in field-based modules and people generally interested in the natural world. The views are wholly those of the author.

Wind of Change?
The UK's PM is reportedly 'blowing cold' on onshore wind turbines (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/apr/05/boris-johnson-blows-cold-on-onshore-wind-faced-with-100-plus-rebel-mps). It's not unreasonable to seriously consider whether wind turbines are appropriate in particular locations. What seems odd, however, is that energy policy seems to be being dictated by 100 'rebel' Members of Parliament (MPs) of the PM's own party. Presumably, all of the electorates of these MPs want cheap and reliable, 'green' electricity. Do they simply want it generated elsewhere? The PM still seems open to considering a resumption of 'fracking' (shale gas extraction). Could this be, because potential fracking locations, are well away from Southern English constituencies? None of this looks like the actions of a 'leader' (self proclaimed?), who is robustly countering climate change, in a fair and equitable manner! Energy provision will involve politically difficult choices.
