This blog may help people explore some of the 'hidden' issues involved in certain media treatments of environmental and scientific issues. Using personal digital images, it's also intended to emphasise seasonal (and other) changes in natural history of the Swansea (South Wales) area. Plants We Used To Use 295. Meadow clary
'Clary' is derived from 'clear eye'. Meadow clary (Salvia pratensis) seeds made a paste, to remove particles from the eyes and reduce inflammation. This was also used as a gargle for sore throats and to clean the teeth. This plant is also used as a flavouring for beers and wines. The flowers can be added to salads.
